"You must do the thing you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m always down for a road trip! So once I heard that Melissa was moving to Houston, that was the first thing that popped in my mind. Melissa was the first of my friends to move to California in August of 2015. Melissa and I have been friends since high school and last December I was honored to stand by her on her wedding day. I jumped on every opportunity I got to visit her in California. Before I moved, I came out here a handful of times to visit her. Once I moved, you would think that we would’ve hung out all the time, but Los Angeles traffic has a mind of its own. Don’t get me wrong, we did hang out often. We lived about an hour to an hour and a half apart depending on traffic. Even whenever Melissa lived in Hammond, I helped her with every move. The only move I didn’t tag along on was whenever she drove out to California from Hammond but even then I helped her by packing her car and helping her go through what she was taking with her and what was getting left behind. I guess it’s just something that has become a thing that we do now so how appropriate for me to tag along to Houston. We didn’t make too many stops along the way but the views driving from LA to Houston are beautiful! It’s mostly a desert drive and I think ya’ll know by now how much I love the desert. On the day we left LA it was raining, but once we got to about Palm Springs the weather cleared up and was nice the rest of the drive! We took I-10 most of the way and I was tempted to cancel my flight back to LA and drive another few hours to make a visit home. The first day we drove all day only stopping for food and gas. We stopped in Tucson for dinner and stayed in El Paso for the night. Those were 2 new cities for me, so I was happy. On the second day we grabbed Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Also this trip was an opportunity to get my southern (fast) food fix! Cracker Barrel and Sonic were my two choices, and we even got Sonic twice on the second day. Both days were long and we finally made it to Houston around midnight on Thursday and I flew back to LA on Friday. It was a quick trip but I appreciated the time to hang out with Melissa and Phil before they got to Houston. I spent my first Thanksgiving in California with them and a lot of my California memories include the two of them. Wishing them the best of luck in their new city and can’t wait to come back for a weekend!
