After a fun-filled week celebrating my birthday in Los Angeles, we headed out to the desert for the weekend. My friend Brooke flew in the Friday night before. She and I left Saturday morning and drove through Joshua Tree National Park before heading to our Airbnb. I have been to the park a couple of times before, but it was Brooke’s first time, which made it that much more fun! We stopped at Keys Point, and the Cactus Garden. We got some pretty cool pictures of us looking over Coachella Valley but it was super windy. Once we got to Cactus Garden, Brooke had to pee so we went to a pull off area. There weren't any public bathrooms in the area, but we’re from the country ;) Once we were out of the car we found the perfect cactus for Brooke to get a picture in front of. So she kicked off her shoes and sat in front of it (in the CACTUS garden)! So I kneeled down to get the perfect angle and I got stuck! There were about 10 different pieces I had to pull out and they really weren’t all that easy and IT HURT! I finally got them out and at that point we decided we would head to our Airbnb. It was about 8 or 9 miles from the main road, and about 2 miles from a paved road. The house was far from any neighbors but our closest neighbor was a Naval Base. It was kinda cool to see, but staying nearby for 2 days was a bit freaky. Tory, Zach, and Junior were already there. There wasn’t much “special” about the house, pretty minimum decor, but that is what made it kind of cool. There was a small pool and a hot tub. The pool was perfect during the day and the hot tub was just right for the night time. There wasn’t much else to do so that is what we did for the evening. We made turkey burgers and hung out all night. It was just the four of us the first night. On Sunday morning, we got up and went to Joshua Tree Saloon for lunch. We tried to go to Natural Sisters Cafe but it was too crowded. The food there was great and I highly recommend it! That afternoon, Casie drove in and KT came a couple of hours after her. We spent all day hanging out and the sunset was beautiful that evening. Zach made us a fire that night so we sat outside and stargazed. Apple has made it easy to find the constellations because there’s an app for that ;) The next morning was a little difficult to get moving but we checked out of the Airbnb and went back to Joshua Tree Saloon for lunch again before heading back to Los Angeles. Overall it was an awesome time and I’m very lucky to have such great friends who agree to celebrate my birthday for an entire weekend!
