"Adventure is something you seek for pleasure, or even for profit, like a gold rush or invading a country; but experience is what really happens to you in the long run; the truth that finally overtakes you." -Katherine Anne Porter

Have you ever felt just the need to take a step back from reality? Even if it's just a short trip away for a short amount of time? KT, Casie, Tory and I were all in need of taking a break from reality for a weekend so off to San Diego we went! We drove down on a Monday morning so it wasn’t really a girls “weekend” but it was the weekend for us since we were all bartenders. We stayed in Point Loma in the cutest house and neighborhood. The view from any point of the house was BEAUTIFUL! The front yard overlooked the bay and downtown San Diego and the living room window was a perfect frame of the ocean. Once we got to the house, we got settled in and then set out to find lunch. We found a cute little place on the harbor called Mitch’s Seafood. The food was really good but let’s be honest, nothing compares to Louisiana Seafood! We picked up some stuff for Bloody Mary’s on the way back and just enjoyed the afternoon taking in the views. That night we went to a small show for a band that Casie was a fan of. We grabbed a few drinks at a nearby bar called Bar Pink in North Park and then headed to the show. The venue was small and I believe it was a church (no alcohol), but I enjoy any live music so it was still enjoyable. I think Casie by far enjoyed it the most out of all of us. She left that night to head to Florida to visit family, and the rest of us enjoyed another beautiful day in San Diego. The next morning we brought Junior to the Ocean Beach Dog Beach. It was really pretty that morning and Junior loved running around on the beach and playing with all of the other dogs. We enjoyed it too as most dogs like meeting new people. That afternoon we went to the San Diego Zoo, which is AMAZING! It is one of the largest zoo’s and we had so much fun! We ate at the restaurant in the zoo, Albert’s Restaurant, and enjoyed a couple of Bloody Mary’s on their patio deck next to a small waterfall. It took us a couple of hours to get through the entire thing, and I believe we still didn’t see everything. My favorite exhibits were the Panda’s and the Hippos! The panda's were really cute to see and they sat perfectly chewing their bamboo sticks for everyone to get pictures. I think that was one of my first times ever seeing a Panda Bear so I was on cloud 9. The Hippo had recently given birth, so there was a baby hippo that was only about 3 months old! Watching the baby and its mother bond was fascinating. The zoo is in Balboa Park, which I had visited before, but I had not been to the zoo since I was a child. We went back and watched the sunset from the house again that evening and cooked dinner there that night. We cooked steaks, shrimp, and zucchini. We had wine that evening, listened to music and just enjoyed our last night on “vacation” before heading back to Los Angeles the next morning. Before we headed back to LA, we went to breakfast at Hash House A Go Go. It was recommended to us by a couple we met at Mitch’s Seafood and there was also a business card on the refrigerator at the house we were staying. Since we were headed out, we had Junior with us and sat on the back patio. Junior is an emotional support animal, so when we put his vest on him, people don’t usually question it. The food at Hash House was SO GOOD and the portions were massive! They were definitely shareable sizes. I can’t remember the exact dished we ordered, but I’m positive everything they offered on their menu was great. When we went to leave, Junior being the dominant dog he is, lead the way. As Tory was following behind him holding his leash, she tripped over a step and pretty much fell into a woman’s lap! Since we had on Junior’s service vest, the lady thought Tory was blind and that Junior was her guide dog! It was probably the highlight of the entire trip and I really can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard! We laughed halfway back to LA where Tory and I had to head right in to work. It was a quick bounce back in to reality but at least we were in it together! :P
